Hoffman Wedding

On October 8th, I had the pleasure of photographing my first wedding ceremony and reception. My sister-in-law, Celeste, married Mike Hoffman at St. Thomas Becket Roman Catholic Church in Veneta, OR. I took lots of great pictures. My favorites are included in the gallery below. I learned some valuable lessons, one of which being to make sure that your back up battery is actually charged! Luckily I was assisted by Bridget Braunger of Syli Pictures, who took some great pictures that aren’t included in the gallery below.

A funny story, before you dive into the photos… attached to the church is a private school, so the bride was scheduled to get ready in the school office for proximity. Celeste, my mother-in-law, Michelle, and I were in the copy room of the office for some privacy helping Celeste get into her gown (which she made herself, check out how gorgeous it is!). Michelle had a hard time closing the door, and when we were ready to leave we found that the door wouldn’t open! We thought it was just that it had locked us in, so one of her sisters went to go get the priest or nuns with keys to let us out. We were horrified to learn that the key wasn’t working to open the door, so we were trapped! Luckily my husband Dominic is a door technician by trade and we had a toolbox inside the copy room, so he talked me through taking the knob off the inside of the door. Unfortunately, the door lock was malfunctioning, and that didn’t work either. So, with the priest’s permission, the Groom kicked the door in! So, pictures were taken after the ceremony instead of before, to say the least!

New Craft: Badge Necklace Clips

Thanks to some great inspiration from my friend & colleague Karen Garcia, last Friday night I sat down to a marathon of Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil on Netflix to craft. She’d shown me at the last conference I saw her at a unique badge clips she’d made, which I wanted to try my hand at.

If you’ve ever been to any kind of convention, trade show, or expo, you’ve probably been given a name badge in a big plastic holder with a big fabric lanyard strap adored with some sponsoring company logo. Something like in this picture of me & my Affiliate Marketing Fanatics co-host Mike Buechele.

The big plastic part is unavoidable, but the lanyard is optional… as long as you have some kind of method of holding the badge, you’re fine. So Karen, creative dynamo that she is, came up with a great idea – essentially she made a necklace and attached it to a badge clip of some kind. Ladies can appreciate the genius of this – clip your badge to it during the day at the conference and then when you’re ready to hit the town for some after-hours networking, just put the name tag portion into your purse and spin the clasp portion back behind your neck and voila!

So on Friday night, after a trip to Walmart, I endeavored to make my own. I’d picked up some beads that I thought best matched my company’s branded colors and a nice shirt I have and often wear, and sat down to make it. It was easier than I thought, so Saturday I made a few more to match other nice shirts I often wear to conferences.

So, here’s the products of my labor… and I think I may eventually make some more and offer them on my Etsy store. Click on the images to see the larger versions. In the meantime, if you have some colors in mind, I will take requests and will adjust pricing based on materials costs, so contact me if you’re interested!

New Screencast Videos

I’ve recently been playing with Screenr.com to make some screen cast videos. Ultimately, I’ll do some more beneficial things with them, but for now I’ve made a few on how to post photos using BBCode, popular on many bulletin boards and forums. Check them out and provide some feedback! There’s no sound in the Flickr one, so don’t double check to see if something’s wrong with your audio!

New Blinkstar Media Logo

Thanks to the help from Jen Goode of JGoode Designs, we have a new logo! Jen was able to take the cool airbrushed t-shirt that we had done at the fair last year and turn it into a logo. There’s still some finishing touches to be made in the way of embellishments, but here’s the new logo!

Affiliate Summit East 2009 Blog Posts

Affiliate Summit East 2009 came and went back in August, and it’s almost time for Affiliate Summit West 2010 in January. Blinkstar Media was in full attendance with both Dominic & Trisha in New York for the conference. We will both hopefully be returning to Las Vegas for the next Affiliate Summit as well, and plan to cover the sessions again at TrishaLyn.com. I meant to post these links back in August, but it completely slipped my mind with thoughts of a redesign taking priority. I’m so pleased with this logo design – I think it’s the best I’ve done so far! It’s easy to work with a client that is available and has an idea of what they want – easy to please! New Design!

Yes that’s right! I’ve finally upgraded the site with a new look! Hope you like it!

I’ve been working a lot on a new client site and a new web property. I’m almost ready to unveil them! Still ironing out little things and perfecting the details. I’m SUPER proud of the logo I created for the new web property. I’ve got to give a lot of props to Dominic on this one since he’s taking the lead on content for the new site and helped a lot with the look of the logo.

Speaking of web properties, I’ve revamped Girl Scout Guide as well. I’m tweaking some more things there, too, so I’ll be unveiling it’s new design here in a few days.
